AI FOR SMALL BUSINESSOPERATIONS.
Most small-business AI fails for one reason: there’s no real data underneath it. Here’s what we do differently.
Why most small-business AI doesn’t work
The data is scattered
Orders live in the storefront, payments in a bank export, messages in an inbox, and inventory in a spreadsheet somebody updates on Sundays. No model can reason across systems it was never connected to.
Nothing is structured
A PDF invoice and a photo of a receipt are not data — they're pictures of data. Until the numbers live in typed columns with real relationships between them, a question like "what was my margin" has no answer to retrieve.
There is no operational context
A general model knows what a purchase order is. It does not know what yours means, which of your customers is on net-30, or that a flagged order means an address problem. That context has to be built, not prompted.
What we build instead
The same three stages every WordSmith engagement runs on. The AI layer is the last step, because it depends on the first two.
01
AUDIT
We map how work actually moves through your business — where an order enters, who touches it, where it stalls, and which numbers you currently reconstruct by hand.
02
BUILD
We provision a dedicated database and configure the modules your operation needs. Every order, message, and transaction now lands in a structured table instead of a spreadsheet.
03
OPERATE
The AI layer reads from that database. Because the operational layer came first, the answers come from your live records rather than a guess.
What you can actually ask it
Plain language, against your live records. No query builder, no export, no pivot table.
- what did we net last month
- which customers have not been replied to
- how many orders shipped last week
- what is my margin on the top five products
- which SKUs have not moved in 60 days
- compare this month to the same month last year
- what is sitting in the queue longer than three days
- who are my ten highest-value customers this year
AI guidance is part of what you’re paying for
Once the operational layer is live, we advise on where AI fits your operation — which questions to ask the data, which workflows to automate, and which ones to leave to people. That guidance sits inside the managed relationship. It is not a separate consulting product.
What we sell
Advisory to existing Launchpad and Operations clients on where AI earns its keep — plus the baseline capability that ships with every build.
What we refuse
Standalone AI consulting for businesses without structured ops data underneath. The model has nothing real to read, and confident wrong answers are worse than no AI at all.
How it’s delivered
A baseline AI capability ships with every build. The deeper capability — the part that reads across every module and narrates what changed — is the AI Pro Add-On (+$150/mo on the Operations track).
It is not sold standalone. We don’t take on AI consulting for businesses that haven’t built the operational layer, because it doesn’t work: the model has nothing to read, and you pay for answers that sound right and aren’t.
If that’s where you are, the honest advice is to fix the foundation first. Get your orders, messages, and money into one structured system — with us or with anyone. The AI is worth adding the day there’s something underneath it, and not a day sooner.
Included at baseline
- Plain-language questions against your live data

- Guidance on where AI fits your operation
- One isolated database per client — never shared, never training data
Add-on · +$150/mo
AI Pro Add-On
~10M tokens/mo · $75 spend cap. Required for Phase 3 AI Automation modules. Attached to the Operations track — never its own tier.

Do I need to already have my data organized?
No. That is the work. Most clients arrive with data spread across spreadsheets, an inbox, and a storefront. Structuring it is the build, not a prerequisite for it.
Is my business data used to train AI models?
No. Each client runs on an isolated database that is never pooled with another business. Your operation is never used as training data.
Which AI model does this use?
We run current frontier models and update them as part of the managed relationship. Naming a specific version would go stale — keeping the model current is our job, not yours.
Can I get just the AI without the rest of the platform?
No. AI on top of scattered, unstructured data produces confident answers that are wrong, and we will not sell that. The operational layer is what makes the AI worth having.
What does it cost?
A baseline AI capability — and guidance on where it fits your operation — is included in every build. Deeper capability is the AI Pro Add-On (+$150/mo) on the Operations track. Current pricing is on the pricing page.
Does this replace my staff?
No. It replaces the hour someone spends rebuilding the same report from three spreadsheets. The questions still come from people who know the business.
